What is a Charter School?

SCMSA is a tuition-free public school independent of the St. Cloud School District. Being a charter school allows us to offer unique opportunities to our students without sacrificing accessibility or seeking a profit. Because we are independent of a school district, our school is governed by those who know our students best--our licensed teachers and administrators as well as parents and the community.

Like other public schools, we welcome all students, regardless of background or ability, and hope to see all of our students thrive throughout their time at our school. We abide by the same laws that ensure student safety as public school districts do, and hold our teachers and students to the same high standards by offering a high-quality core curriculum that ensures that our students receive all the building blocks they need for success.

As a charter school, we focus on the specialty area of science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Read more about our STEM curriculum and its benefits here. We are also dedicated to maintaining a low teacher to student ratio and keeping our classes small to create a community where students can have plenty of one-on-one interaction with their teachers and foster strong relationships with their peers in a welcoming, inclusive environment.
